A Service Opportunity for Your Student: Chores for Charity

Dear Parents,

Every year, the Salem Middle School Student Council adopts an area nursing home during the holiday season.

Together with the Blue Notes, we arrange for a short holiday concert at the nursing home and bring gifts for the residents. It’s a nice opportunity to teach students about the importance of giving back to the community — something that we hope every child will see as valuable.

To pull this project off, we need lots of donations! All together, we put together close to 100 gift bags.

This year, we are calling our donation drive "Chores for Charity."

Basically, we are encouraging students to work out a contract with you to complete a certain number of chores — raking leaves, doing laundry, cleaning around the house — in exchange for either a cash donation or a donation of a gift (or two) that we can use to support our Student Council’s nursing home efforts.

If you are looking for a way to teach your child a little more about giving back to the community, think about getting involved!

Here’s the information sheet for the project.

Let me know if you have any questions,
