Just a quick heads up that we will be holding our first quarter Honors Assembly on Monday, October 30th from 8:45-10:00 in the auditorium here at Salem Middle School.
Several students will get special recognition as Kids of Character or as Teacher’s Choice Award Winners.
Those parents will be notified directly via email or a phone call from the school’s counselor, Jerry Decker.
Students will also receive recognition for making both the All A and the A/B Honor Roll. Here are how those honors are defined:
All A Honor Roll: Student must have made all As in every course where a grade was given — including elective classes and PE.
A/B Honor Roll: Students must have a 3.0 or higher GPA. To calculate your child’s GPA, convert all quarter letter grades into "quality points" (A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, F=0) and then average the resulting scores. Note: If a child gets a C, it IS possible to make it onto the A/B Honor Roll as long as they have enough As in their other graded classes.
We will NOT be notifying parents of honor roll students directly. There are just too many students who will earn one of those certificates to make that possible. Remember that all of your children have their own username and password to our online gradebooks. They can look up their Honor Roll Standing at any point.
Parents are welcome to attend the assembly — but be prepared to stand if needed! We’ve got a ton of kids this year — and a ton of parents typically attend our assemblies. That means it can be hard to find a seat!
