This week in Social Studies the students completed the Mesopotamian portion of the unit with a quiz on Wednesday. We have now transitioned into the Egyptian portion of the unit. We have spent the first couple of days focused on the geography of Egypt and explaining the meaning of the nick-name Gift of the Nile. The students have seen many similarities in the use of rivers for silt and irrigation between Mesopotamia and Egypt. But we have also touched on some differences in the organization of the Mesopotamian city- states and the all-powerful Egyptian pharaoh.
Next week the students will have the opportunity to explore some of the interesting details of ancient Egypt. Some topics they will be learning about are: the three kingdoms, pharaohs, hieroglyphics, mummification, religion, and pyramids.
Hope everyone has a safe and happy weekend!
