LA Update

Great week- we got a lot accomplished!

Looking at the week ahead, we will discuss and learn the second group of ten root words on the root words handout. There will be a quiz on those ten roots on Friday.

We had great discussion about Robert Frost’s poem, “The Road Not Taken”. I was so proud of the way the students really dove into the poem and attempted to understand Frost’s message. We will use this poem next week to practice writing a literary analysis. After writing an analysis together, students will write their own literary analysis of “Thank you, Ma’am” by Langston Hughes. I absolutely love this short story, so we will have fun with it next week!

Lastly, I gave each student an account for Read Theory, an educational tool that provides online readings for the students’ practice. A couple of cool things about the program–One, adjusts to students’ individual level, and it also allows for progress monitoring. I can see how many quizzes each student has completed, their reading level on each quiz and which skills they may be struggling with. Because I believe it is great practice as we near the end of the year, I am asking the students to complete a certain number of quizzes each week.
