I have a huge favor to ask: I’m looking for a handful (15-20) kids to help run a "Learn How to Open Your Lock" station at our rising sixth grade open house in a few weeks. The task will be simple enough: Our volunteers will be sitting at a table with a lock. They will help fifth graders who visit us that night to learn how to open a combination lock.
My main goal is to give the fifth graders and their families a positive interaction with a sixth grade student. I think that will make them feel more comfortable about coming to Salem. I’m also interested in giving OUR kids a chance to be a leader and a teacher and a contributor to our school community. I think they will take a lot out of being a helper.
I’m going to ask for volunteers tomorrow in class. I wanted to run this by you first, though, because the event happens in the evening. Here are the details:
Date: Tuesday, May 16th.
Time: 6:30 – 8:00 PM.
Students who volunteer would probably want to arrive around 5:45 to miss the traffic in the parking lot.
If you think this is something that you’d like your student to participate in, please encourage them to sign up in class tomorrow!
Thanks in advance for your help,
