We spent class time today looking at our reading benchmark. Students spent time collecting data on their assessment, trying to target areas/skills of concern. My hope is that by breaking the test down into particular skills and genres, students can more easily pinpoint strengths and weaknesses of their reading. I will send the tests home with students on Monday and will attach their data collection and reflection. Parents, take a few minutes to talk it over with your student. They made some pretty cool discoveries today. I will post benchmark grades in PowerSchools next week; they will not affect the student’s grade but will be there as a means of communication.
Next week we will begin reading our historical fiction novels for the book project. I will give specific instructions and points of focus for reading. Please make sure that books are in class on Monday! We will also wrap up our study of text structure, so there will be a text structure quiz on Wednesday.
Have a wonderful weekend!
