Every year, our student council does a gift rally for seniors at a local nursing home. The thinking is that there are a ton of seniors who don’t get regular visitors and/or gifts for the holidays. While I think the gifts that we give are welcomed, the real present is in the cheer brought by the student council representatives who deliver the gifts and sing Christmas carols with the residents.
This year, our student council’s efforts are coming up short. We aren’t getting as many donations to the rally as we usually do — and that’s got the Student Council Advisors worried that we may not have enough gifts for each resident.
If you think you and your child can help, here’s a list of gift ideas.
Think about asking your child to do a few chores around the house to earn money and then take them out to purchase a gift to donate. It could be a nice reminder that the holidays aren’t all about receiving presents!
Thanks for considering this,
