Just a quick heads up to let you know that your children are bringing home an important permission slip home today that has to be signed and returned!
I am applying for recertification through the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards this year. The National Board offers a process of professional certification that has been compared to the Bar Exam for lawyers. It requires teachers to create a portfolio of work over the course of a school year. That portfolio is then reviewed by examiners, who certify a teacher against the most rigorous standards in education.
I have been certified since 1996 — but am required to renew my certification every 10 years. As a part of that renewal, I will be videotaping some lessons this year. I will also be collecting and submitting some student work samples this year. To do so, I need your permission.
You can find the permission slip attached below. You can also learn more about National Board Certification here:
Thank you in advance for considering this!
