I hope everyone is looking forward to a relaxing long weekend!
I apologize for the delay in language arts grades in PowerSchools. I put my grades in on Monday of this week and did not realize that they were not appearing on PowerSchools until mid-week. The issue has been solved, so my grades are up and accurate. If any student has a zero, please have him or her see me so that we can get that taken care of.
Most classes finished Seedfolks this week, and like last week, class was full of wonderful discussion. We will hold a Paidea seminar in class on Tuesday where students will compare Seedfolks, a fictional story, to a journal written by someone after the events of September 11, 2001. This should be fun for the kids and a great way for them to practice using evidence from the text to support their observations and also compare two very different texts with common themes.
Students will be assessed on their knowledge and understanding of Seedfolks next week. They have been prepared for what they will see: a vocabulary section, a section on the characters, and a section on fiction characteristics. We will spend next Wednesday reviewing and the assessment, along with a notebook check, will take place on Thursday.
Lastly, students will receive their next writing assignment mid-week. Each student will be asked to write the next chapter, chapter 14, of Seedfolks. I will be looking to hear their “voice”, see connections with the novel, and a well-developed story line. Brainstorming will start on Wednesday and students should be drafting by Friday.
It was great to see many of you this week at Open House. As always, please contact me if you have any questions or concerns. You may check my website, www.mrsbarrowsclass.pbworks.com for more detailed information.
